State issues e-mail to employees regarding FOI request for salaries

So curious me started searching specific officers merely to see what they’re taking in. First in the query box was of course the JADE Task Force’s Virginia State Policeman Joe Fleming ($53,331), followed by BCI Special Agent Jason Trent ($57,352).

By the time I was looking up Mikes Monroe ($73,780) and Bailey ($69,753), Joseph Rader ($80,135), Dino Cappuzzo ($51,008), not to mention Fox ($!!,!!!), I realized I wasn’t making the most of this fabulous resource.

So info-junkie me limited searches strictly to Job Title. I also discovered how handy the Federal Classification Title link is when coupled with that option. Name after name after name displayed! And y’all know what I think of that: once you’ve got a name, you’ve got everything.

The Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement task force, a collaborative effort of local and federal law enforcement, continues to report high numbers of drug seizures. This year, JADE officials recorded their second-largest cocaine seizure in a decade with 2,635 grams.

The agency announced in its 2004 annual report the disruption of three Jamaican-led drug-distribution groups and another criminal group with leadership in New York.

Since its inception in 1995, JADE has arrested 1,906 people.

“The more they send away, there are those who will take their places,” local defense lawyer Fred Heblich said. “The harsh penalties have not resulted in a decline in drug trafficking. My impression is that there is more drug trafficking here than 15 years ago. Certainly not less.”

A Nelson County man is behind bars accused of stealing from a donation jar.

49-year-old Wilmot “Bill” Packard of Schuyler has been arrested for petty larceny. The sheriff’s office says Packard took money from a jar at a Food Mart on January 2.

The money was supposed to help a family pay for funeral expenses.

Packard is being held without bond at the Albemarle - Charlottesville Regional Jail.

On Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 4:30 P.M., JADE and the WASP [WASSP] Task Force (Waynesboro, Augusta County, [Staunton] and Virginia [sic] State Police) conducted a buy-bust operation on Cove Garden Road in Albemarle County. Authorities arrested Claudio Morales Rodriguez, age 39 of North Garden, after seizing approximately 125 grams of methamphetamine (Ice), with a street value of $4,500.00. Rodriquez was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute (F) and is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.

On Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 1:50 P.M., JADE, with the assistance of the Albemarle County Police Department, the Charlottesville Police Department, the Virginia State Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service, conducted another buy-bust operation in the 2200 block of Barracks Road in the City of Charlottesville. This was the culmination of a month long investigation and resulted in the arrest of Carlos Wilfredo Garcia Sanchez, 38 of Charlottesville, charged him with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute (F) and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school zone (F), and is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. Authorities seized over 500 grams of cocaine from Sanchez, with a street value of $14,000.00.

Later in the afternoon, at approximately 4:00 P.M., JADE conducted another operation, which was the culmination of a two month long investigation. The operation began in the Charlottesville area, and after one hour of surveillance, four individuals were arrested in Nelson County for possession of approximately 268 grams of cocaine with the intent to distribute. The four individuals arrested were Juan Miguel Cubas, age 24, Bayron Diaz, age 30, Jonas Eberardo Moradel, age 25, and Fernando Carmonma Pacheo, age 36. Cubas and Moradel are residents of Albemarle County. Diaz is a resident of Richmond, VA, and Pacheo is a resident of Nelson County. Cubas was released on a $3000.00 bond, and the other three were held without bond pending hearings in the Nelson County General District Court. The Nelson County Sheriff's Department, Virginia State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Albemarle County Police Department assisted in this operation. This is an on-going investigation and further charges are pending.

Herb - Lieutenant Don Campbell.

I’m going to start drawing a new comic strip. It’ll be all about a cartoon character named Herbal. Technically Herbal will be a gerbil, but he’ll be a cool glasses-sportin’ briefcase-carryin’ anti-Marijuana one. Ah, c’mon, it can’t be any worse than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Mouse - Sergeant John Baber.

This fellow is the only one who started with one name but ended up with another. The original was also of an omnivore (one he’d no doubt prefer to be called) but, well, indecisiveness and a certain picture of him compelled me to change it to what it is. Truth be told, I don’t care for this selection much either. He does strike me as incredibly creature-like; I just can’t pinpoint which one. I should’ve just called him Animal.

Dasani - Sergeant Joe Hatter.

Maybe it’s ingrained from his SWAT training, but this dude goes nearly nowhere without being accompanied by a bottle or two of water. His brand of choice might not be Dasani, but I wasn’t about to refer to him as Deer Park.

Porn Star - Detective Jon McKay.

That guy’s either a cop or a wanna-be 80s porn star! When I first saw him I swear he looked exactly the way adult film actors used to look. So much so I couldn’t help but imagine his ass, the section of flesh glowing white in stark contrast to the rest of his suntanned body. Twisted thought, perhaps, but by no means an unpleasant one.

Truck - Detective Paul Best.

I dunno… you are what you’re next to? A glimpse in my driver’s side mirror produced the grill of a truck and the upper body of an attractive man clad in a blue and black vest branded POLICE. Had he been half an inch closer to the vehicle, there’s a good possibility he’d be known as Toyota.

Skoal - Detective Jon Seitz.

Between the worn round outline in his back right pocket and the bottle full of gooey brown liquid -- definitely not the advertised Diet Coke -- in his hand, I dubbed him the only brand of smokeless tobacco I knew. Oddly enough, in the future I would find the men carried containers of Kayak, Grizzly, and Timber Wolf, but never any Skoal.

Spot - Detective Granville Q. Fields.

The second I saw him, I pegged him as a cop. I kid you not, the thought that immediately popped in my mind was Good grief; do all these guys have that spot? Despite being a fair distance away from him, I could clearly see a circular area of baldness near the top of the back of his head. Several other JADE men have this identical marking, including LH.

Cruiser Crasher - Detective Tavis Coffin.

When I got word Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement would be hiring a new man, it took me all of five seconds to learn he’d be an addition from the Albemarle County Police Department -- their budgeted fourth. Hence the first label I pinned on him and ultimately mentioned here: That Transfer From The County. Five seconds more and I found out his name is Tavis Coffin. Turns out Mr. Coffin is known for his, ahem, less than smooth driving abilities. The prime pseudonym for an on-duty officer with that surname who ran his law enforcement vehicle into a ditch? Cruiser Crasher Coffin.

Longhead - Detective Brian N. O’Donnell.

I suppose because of his remarkably elongated face, this is, for real, what the druggies who know him call him so it’s what I went with. Honestly, it’s far nicer than any Faux name I would’ve given him. In print, I often abbreviate Longhead to LH.

SeeSee - ATF Special Agent John Stoltz.

SeeSee = CC = Carbon Copy. Inside and out this guy is nothing more than a clone of Longhead. And if you’ve listened to him, as I have, gushing on and on about LH, you’d probably find, as I did, it bordered on vomit-inducing. If I were his wife, I’d worry about what’s inspiring those wet dreams he’s been having.

Pringle - Detective Jimmy Bunch.

Simple explanation: offhand he looked like someone I know with that last name. ‘Course, naturally, after seeing more of him I made up my mind that he only looks like my acquaintance from afar. Up close he reminds me of the teddy bear you hug whenever you’re down and sad.

Rasmussen - VSP BCI Special Agent Joe S. Fleming.

A long time ago I saw a picture of professional cyclist Michael Rasmussen. In it he was kind of hunched over and you could see all his bones and ribs sticking out and it was frankly repulsive. So this JADE member was kind of bent over reaching into an automobile and I guess because of some items – body armor, gun, whatever -- under his shirt jutting out everywhere it gave the same sick skeletal impression. (To be clear, it was not a reflection of reality as, unlike the real Rasmussen, this one has a decent build.) The choice of nickname was emphatically better when I later saw a collection of bikes belonging to him and heard he’s an avid cycler too.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a puff piece or if it's just page-filler, and it doesn't offer me any new insight, but because it's JADE-related I'll link to it.

Oh my gawd. I must not be using the Charlottesville city name enough here. I did a search on Google for jade charlottesville -- presumably one of the more obvious word combinations the kind of person who would be interested in this site would type in -- and iheartejade.blogspot.com is so far down the line of results, it’s on the might-as-well-not-exist page. That. Is. So. Zpht!

In contrast, look up jade task force (with or without quotation marks) and this blog is -- has been for months -- second only to the City of Charlottesville website. I couldn’t pay for better than that!

I refuse to have I HeArTE JADE sitting in the nose bleed section of the Internet. Therefore, with the help of my lovely assistant, Google, I’m gonna get groovier tickets.
